EPHO TO CONVERT WOOLWORTHS NORWEST SUPPORT OFFICE TO SOLAR
572 kW – solar power installed on Woolworths’ most forward-thinking company office space
1,400 – solar panels flown by helicopter onto the rooftop
90 – helicopter lifts will transport the solar components to the roof
3,000 sqm – roof space converted to an urban solar power plant
Epho Commercial Solar are proud to announce they have been selected to convert the Woolworths' Norwest Support Office at Bella Vista to solar energy.
Built in 2006, the Woolworths Norwest Support Office has been recognised as one of the country’s most forward thinking company office spaces, with over 60,000m² of space, over 3000 staff, cafés and a gymnasium all on campus.
The project reflects Woolworths’ ongoing commitment to sustainable energy and the company’s specific target to reduce carbon emissions. To date Woolworths have achieved savings of 18% from 2015 levels.
The new solar system will have a capacity of 572 kW of solar power, supplying the equivalent of the energy usage of 120 households. Solar panels will cover approximately 3000 square metres of roof space.
The project has unique challenges, as the campus has up to 3,000 people working on site daily, very limited space available for the storage of solar panels and limited access for a crane. To overcome these challenges Epho plan to helicopter the solar panels and all main components from the ground onto the roof. This is an approach that reflects Epho’s drive to continually improve their delivery through solutions to complex issues and always develop the best method for the task at hand.
Dr Oliver Hartley, Epho’s Managing Director stated: “We are very pleased to be working with Woolworths, one of Australia’s largest companies on the conversion of their Norwest Support Office to solar energy. This project reflects Epho’s expertise in delivering complex large scale projects and will make a real difference towards a sustainable future for Australia.“
